Location
LA AZOHIA
The beach at La Azohia is gently shelving with shallow, warm waters & a beautiful new palm-lined promenade stretching two miles ensuring a memorable evening stroll along the sea front as the sun sets across the bay. Much prized by the Spanish the sea here is considered amongst the clearest in Spain & has been granted blue flag status for many years with the deeper waters at Cabo Tinoso known by divers far & wide for their colourful sea beds & by the local fishermen who still bring in their daily tuna catches to the quaint marina.
The Costa Calida is a fairly undiscovered part of south-east Spain. La Azohia is a totally unspoilt idyllic Spanish fishing village on the Costa Calida. It lies at the sheltered end of the large Mazarron bay, just 10 minutes drive away from Mazarron with its wealth of shops, restaurants, and a wonderful large sandy beach. It is 20 minutes drive away from the large town of Cartagena, where Hannibal landed with his elephants. There are no organised tour operators here, and even in the height of the season you will be able to find virtually empty beaches in La Azohia and around the bay of Mazarron. The beaches in this area of the Costa Calida are fantastic - plenty of large, fine sandy beaches (including a number of blue flag beaches) for the perfect beach holiday.
Rest, relax … there is almost no pace of life here. For the more energetic, there is swimming, windsurfing, diving at all levels .La Azohia is a very well-known place for diving, sailing, boat cruises, golf, biking, river rafting, tennis, trekking.
Puerto de Mazarron
Just a short drive away is Puerto de Mazarron, with many bars, restaurants, super markets, banks, a children’s play ride which looks lovely lit up in the evening.
Further along the main road is also a small fair and local stalls which are opened in the evening.
The port of Mazarron has a Sunday Market, this is lovely, it has so much local flavour just like old Spain.
The Beach at Mazarron is beautiful, very large and flat and sandy with children’s park and swings, also lots of restaurants and bars, and if you like bowls there is a lovely club there which you can go in as guest.
For the golfers there are lots of places to go, there are three new 18 hole clubs between Cartagena and San Javier airport.
There is a 9 hole course at Campersol 20mins away the other side of Mazarron town.
Cartagena
Cartagena is about 20 minutes away and has some lovely shops, but the old town and port are worth the visit and it has very interesting and well conserved archaeological rest from Romans, fenicios and Carthaginians. The food is fantastic, and its people pleasant. Summer here it’s fantastic, but there is no word to describe how marvellous it is to spend you winter time here with no noise and an average temperature of 10-20 ºC
