According to tradition, the name of the town came from the book “Aeneid” by Virgil. The mythological figure of Palinurus, who was Aenea’s helmsman, fell into the sea and was killed by the barbaric local inhabitants. The sea is clear and blue with a fantastic seabed. There is a breathtaking coastline with rocky cliffs and unspoiled golden sandy beaches and lots of mysterious sea caves. Here the rare flower ‘Primula Palinuri’ can still be found. The surrounding hills are covered by century old olive trees and all this makes Palinuro the pearl of the Cilento coast.
Furthermore the Cilento National Park offers a lot of different kinds of excursions including the enchanting medieval villages of Pisciotta, Camerota and San Severino with their different way of life and the archaeological areas of Paestum with its Greek temples, the ruins of Velia and Roccagloriosa. You can take an adventurous walk in the mountainous heartland to discover the flora, the fauna, the typical local products and the numerous restaurants where you can enjoy the genuine Mediterranean cooking.
Nowadays Palinuro is an important seaside resort where visitors can explore the colourful shops and find anything they need. It offers a perfect combination of myth, history, civilisation and nature for an unforgettable holiday.
Facilities in the neighbourhood of the Residence:
Restaurants and pizzerias, discos, grocery shops, horseback riding, scuba diving school, medical service, cars, mopeds, scooters, bicycles and boats for hire. The bus stop is 500 mt. from the sports and leisure centre and Pisciotta-Palinuro station is 1 km from the Residence.
